Central Islip, N.Y. – Junior guard
Chelsea Williams (Copiague, N.Y.) of LIU Post has been named the
2014 ECC Women’s Basketball Player of the Year, while Queens
College's Madison Rowland (Cohoes, N.Y.) has been named both the
Rookie of the Year and the Defensive Player of the Year in voting
by the conference’s coaches.
Williams was an integral part in LIU Post capturing the ECC Regular
Season Championship. In 26 games, Williams has poured in 19.2
points per game, good for second in the conference. Williams scored
in double-figures in all but two games on the season and topped the
20 point mark on 12 different occasions. She also leads the ECC
with 186 free throws made and a 85.6 free throw percentage. In
addition, Williams pulled down a more than respectable 5.9 rebounds
per game from the guard position.
Rowland takes the Rookie of the Year honor after putting together
one of the more memorable debut campaigns in ECC history. She
currently tops the ECC with a 19.8 points per game scoring average.
Similar to Williams, Rowland scored in double figures in all but
two games and topped the 20 point mark on 12 different occasions.
She also topped 30 points on four occasions, including an ECC
season-high of 40 points on February 1st against Bridgeport, in a
game she became one of 12 players in Division II to post a
triple-double this season (13 rebounds, 11 steals). Rowland
also ranks in the top ten in the conference in shooting percentage
(47.2) and free throws made (85).
Rowland was also a standout on the defensive end of the court to
earn the Defensive Player of the Year nod. She currently tops the
ECC and all of Division II with 114 steals and 4.6 steals per game.
Her rebounding numbers were solid as well, as she pulled down 7.8
per game to rank eighth in the ECC.

Year by her peers. Moore, who has led her Pioneers to three
consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, takes the top honor for
