Indianapolis, Ind. – The second NCAA
Division II Women's Basketball East Regional poll gained one ECC
squad from last week, as the Queens College Knights have joined LIU
Post and the University of the District of Columbia in the
ranking.
LIU Post is the highest ranked ECC squad this week but remain in
the No. 4 spot they held in the original ranking. The Pioneers, who
are looking to make their fourth straight appearance in the NCAA
Tournament, have won eight straight games to move to 20-5 (17-2
ECC) on the season. The Pioneers have also clinched the ECC Regular
Season Championship for the first time in program history and will
have home court advantage throughout the ECC Tournament.
UDC, who dropped both games last week, fell to the No. 5 spot in
the poll. The Firebirds, who had won 10 of their previous 11 games
before the two game skid, currently sit at 19-6 (15-4 ECC) on the
season. UDC, who made the NCAA Tournament in their first ECC season
in 2011-12, are attempting to make the field of 64 for the second
time in three seasons.
One of the two teams to defeat UDC last week, Queens College, moves
in to the poll at No. 10. The Knights, two seasons removed from a
one win season, currently have an identical record (19-6, 15-4 ECC)
as UDC. The Knights have clinched at least a top-three seed in the
ECC Championship and are still alive for the No. 2 seed and a first
round bye.
The Northeast 10 Conference had the most schools listed in the poll
with seven including undefeated and No. 1 nationally ranked,
Bentley. The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference has one team in
the poll.
The regional rankings will be released weekly on Wednesdays through
March 5. The top eight teams (three conference tournament champions
and five at-large berths) in the poll after the conference
championships will earn bids to the Division II Women's Basketball
Tournament.
