Beaverton, Ore. - Dowling College head coach
Joe Pellicane has been named the 2013 Schelde North
America/Women’s Division II Bulletin Coach of the Year, the
publication announced in its April issue.
Pellicane led his Golden Lions to a 30-4 record and to the Division
II national title game. Dowling won it’s first ever NCAA game
this season and was the first ECC time to reach the national
championship game. In their historical run, the Golden Lions won 15
straight games and won 30 a program-best games. In other program
firsts, Dowling earned a No. 10 ranking in the nation, and was
ranked first in defense and opponent points per game.
“Joe did a great job with his team this season and had his
players playing at the highest level. He is most deserving of this
honor,” said Women’s Division II Bulletin editor and
publisher Gary Rubin. “Along with Schelde North America, we
are pleased to recognize him for his achievement and hard
work.”
Women’s Division II Bulletin has named a Coach of the Year
every season since 1993-94. Pellicane is the first East Coast
Conference coach to win the award.
“Reaching the national title game takes an outstanding effort
from the first day of practice to the final buzzer in March,”
said Jim Peterson, president of Schelde North America, a leading
basketball goal and equipment manufacturer. “Schelde North
America is honored to partner with Women’s Division II
Bulletin to recognize Joe Pellicane and all the coaches in Division
II college basketball.”
