San Antonio, Texas - Kristen McMahon of the No.
10 Dowling College women's basketball team has been selected as the
recipient of National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)
Division II women's basketball Elite 89 award for the 2013 Elite
Eight Championship. A sophomore from Patchogue, N.Y., McMahon was
presented with the prestigious award prior to the start of the
tournament.
The Elite 89, an award founded by the NCAA, recognizes the true
essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has
reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship
level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest
academic standard among his or her peers. The Elite 89 is presented
to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point
average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's
championships.
McMahon, a spanish major, currently carries a 4.0 GPA. The
sophomore has played in 27 games this season, totaling 42 points,
49 rebounds and 10 assists.
