Central Islip, N.Y. – After winning their
second straight ECC Championship on Sunday, the Dowling College
women’s basketball team has reached new heights with a No. 10
ranking in the latest USA Today Sports Division II Top 25 Coaches
Poll.
The Golden Lions, who defeated NYIT 72-49 to cut down the nets as
ECC Champions for the second consecutive season, reach the highest
ranking in program history. Dowling has now won 10 games in a row
to move to 25-3 on the year and crack the top 10.
NYIT, who was ranked No. 23 last week, falls out of the rankings
after the loss to Dowling and into the others receiving votes
category.
Dowling and NYIT, along with conference foe LIU Post will all take
part in the East Regional of the NCAA Tournament beginning on
Friday at Bentley University. The field of eight is loaded with six
teams that are listed in the Top 25 poll (No. 3 Bentley, No. 6 Holy
Family, No. 10 Dowling, No. 12 Stonehill, RV NYIT, RV
