Indianapolis, Ind. – Four East Coast Conference
women’s basketball teams continue to hold spots in the latest
NCAA East Region rankings, released on Wednesday afternoon.
The four schools remaining in the ECC Women’s Basketball
Championship, Dowling, NYIT, LIU Post, and Bridgeport, make up the
ECC’s representation.
Dowling is the highest ranked ECC school, holding steady at the No.
3 spot in the poll. The Golden Lions, the ECC Regular Season
Champion and defending ECC Champion, are the top seed in this
week’s ECC Women’s Basketball Championship with a 23-3
record. With the No. 3 ranking, the Golden Lions are all but
assured of making their second consecutive trip to the NCAA
Tournament.
Next up is NYIT. The Bears fall two spots to No. 6 on the heels of
a three game losing streak to close out the regular season. Despite
the losses, NYIT earned a bye into the ECC Championship semifinals.
The Bears also set a program record for wins, posting a 22-4
regular season record.
LIU Post is next at No. 8. The Pioneers, who at 19-8 on the season
are attempting to make it three straight years in the NCAA
Tournament, fall one spot after a 64-57 loss to Molloy to close out
the regular season.
Bridgeport is the final school in the rankings, coming in at No. 10
after posting a 1-1 record to move to 18-9 on the year.
The East Coast Conference has the second most schools in the poll
behind the Northeast 10 Conference, who had five. The Central
Atlantic Collegiate Conference had one member in the poll.
The regional rankings will be released weekly on Wednesdays through March 6. The top eight teams (three conference tournament champions and five at-large berths) in the poll after the conference championships will earn bids to the Division II Women's Basketball Tournament.
