Brookville, N.Y. – Sophomore forward
Lauren Battista (North Easton, Mass.), of the Bentley University
women’s basketball team, has been named the 2012 Daktronics
Inc. East Region Player of the Year, as voted on by the
region’s Division II athletic communications directors.
Battista leads the Falcons in scoring (17.0 points,), rebounds per
game (7.1), steals (37), field goal percentage (.533), and free
throw percentage (.815). Along with being voted the
Northeast-10 Player of the Year, she was named the NE-10 Tournament
MVP after leading the Falcons to a 79-52 victory over Southern
Connecticut in the championship game.
Also named to the First Team was senior forward Christine Wooding
(Northfield, N.J.) of Philadelphia University, senior center Jewell
White (Worcester, Mass.) of Franklin Pierce University, senior
guard Felicia Joyner (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) of C.W. Post and senior
forward Kelly Meredith (Franklin, Mass.) of Assumption College.
The Second Team honorees included junior center Erin Mann (West
Chester, Pa.) of Holy Family University, senior forward Brittany
Shields (Cold Spring, N.Y.) of Pace University, senior forward
Brianna Sloper (Williston Park, N.Y.), graduate guard Amanda
Bartlett (Mesa, Ariz.) of Molloy College and junior guard Torey
Jones (Providence, R.I.).
