Three Named to Daktronics East All-Region Team

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (March 10, 2010) – Three East Coast Conference women’s basketball players earned spots on the 2010 Daktronics Inc. East All-Region Teams released on March 10.  Janea Aiken from C.W. Post was named to the First Team while Kymira Woodberry (Molloy) and Christie Marrone (Dowling) garnered Second Team honors.

Senior guard Johannah Leedham (Ellesmere Port, England) of Franklin Pierce University repeated as Daktronics Inc. East Region Player of the Year, as voted by the region’s Division II sports information directors. 

Also named to the First Team was junior forward Catherine Carr (Bernardsville, N.J.) of Holy Family University, senior forward Amelia Simmons (Wilmington, Del.) of Wilmington University, junior guard Janea Aiken (St. Albans, N.Y.) of C.W. Post and senior forward Kelsey Simonds (Middleboro, Mass.) of Stonehill College.

Leedham is averaging 27.3 points a game for the top-ranked Ravens and was named the Northeast-10 Player of the Year.  She scored 39 points in the NE-10 semifinal against Bentley and became the all-time leading scorer in Division II women’s basketball.  Franklin Pierce captured both the NE-10 regular season and tournament championship and heads into the NCAA Tournament with a 28-1 overall record.

Carr was a CACC First Team selection this year and was third in scoring with 17.7 points a game.  She is a finalist for the NCAA Division II State Farm Coaches’ All-America Team.  She was the 2009 CACC Player of the Year.  Carr is seventh in Holy Family history in career rebounds (560) and career three-pointers made (85) and ninth in career points (1,505).  The Tigers are 28-2 heading into the NCAA Tournament.

Simmons was the 2010 CACC Player of the Year and leads the team with 22 points and 9.7 rebounds per game.  She is third in the nation in scoring and has scored over 2,000 career points and pulled down over 1,000 rebounds. 

Aiken was the 2010 ECC Player of the Year and led the team with 16.6 points a game.  She was the high scorer in 19 of the Pioneers’ 29 games.  She scored her 1,000th career point against Mercy this season.

Simonds is a three-time NE-10 First Team selection and two-time WBCA All-America Honorable Mention.  She is ranked third in scoring in the conference and one two occasions scored 28 points against Saint Anselm and Merrimack.  She has blocked a program-record 237 shots, while also totaling 1,611 points and 803 rebounds.  Stonehill has a 23-9 record heading into the NCAA Tournament. 

Also named to the Daktronics Second Team was junior guard Kim Brennan (Locust Valley, N.Y.) of Bentley University, junior guard Kirsty Leedham (Ellesmere Port, England), senior forward Kymira Woodberry (Hyde Park, Mass.), junior guard Emily Rousseau (Biddeford, Maine) of Stonehill College and graduate guard Christie Marrone (Brooklyn, N.Y.) of Dowling College.
