Oakdale, NY- Simona Bartkova of the
Women's Basketball team has been named an ESPN The Magazine/CoSida
First Team Academic All-American as announced by the College Sports
Information Directors of America this Tuesday.
Bartkova, a senior guard/forward on the Women's Basketball team,
has been a key factor in Dowling's success these past two
season. Last year, she would help her team reach the ECC
Championship match while making them the second most improved team
in the nation from the previous year.
This season, Bartkova continues her dominance while helping Dowling
secure a spot in the ECC playoffs. Currently, Simona is third
on the team with 242 points, 139 rebounds, and 35 assists while
also adding 19 steals after starting in all 24 games for the Golden
Lions.
In the classroom, Bartkova has been a consistent member of the
Athletic Director's Honor Roll while finishing her degree in
Biology. In addition, Bartkova is currently working with one
of her professors under a research grant to study various fungi and
their possible anti-cancer properties.
