EAST MEADOW, N.Y. (Oct. 14, 2009) - This past Saturday, the
Molloy College volleyball team took part in the fifth-annual
"Conquer Kids Cancer" 5k walk at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow,
N.Y. The run is sponsored by Coins For A Cure, which is a
non-for-profit organization
devoted to surmounting child cancer by raising money for research,
education, awareness and support of pediatric childhood cancer
patients and their families.
The organization was started by the couple of Jerry and Susan
Lombardi, whose daughter was diagnosed with MPNST, which is a rare
and aggressive form of soft tissue sarcoma. Because of this
disease, she had to have two fingers and part of her hand
amputated. Her strength taught the two of them what it is not to be
put off by life's obstacles, and to have
courage.
"It was great having the entire team come out and support the
walk," said junior Tina King (Point Lookout, N.Y.). "It meant a lot
to me, my family and Coin For A Cure. I am happy that we got to
share this experience." Head Coach Kevin Quiambao felt the same
way: "Having the team come together outside the gym for such a
great cause was nice to see."
