Adams and Hayward Named Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Year

West Babylon, N.Y. - Stefan Adams (Jamaica, N.Y.) of LIU Post and Chelsea Hayward (Litchfield, Conn.) of Roberts Wesleyan College have been selected as the East Coast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Year, as voted on by the conference's coaches.

Adams wins the first ECC major honor of his career after a standout outdoor season. The sprinter was the ECC Champion in 200m (21.65) and 400m (47.37) dash and was also named an United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Region honoree in both events. He also helped the Pioneers capture the 4x400m relay title at the ECC Championship, as well.

In addition to his success in the ECC Championship, Adams was nearly unbeatable in the 400m dash throughout the spring season. He crossed the finish line first in the event at the Ramapo College Invitational, the Mark Young Invitational, the Mets Championship, and the IC4A/ECAC Championship. His best time in the 400m was 47.03 at the Mets Championship which earned him a spot in the NCAA Division II Championship meet. At the NCAA meet, Adams finished ninth in the 400 with a time of 47.32 to earn Second Team All-America honors.

Hayward wraps up her career as the most decorated track & field student-athlete in conference history with a second straight Outdoor Athlete of the Year honor. She also won the honor three times for Indoor Track & Field. Hayward was the ECC Champion in the 100m (), 200m (), 4x100m (), and 4x400m () and also claimed the top spot in the same four events at the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) National Championship meet.

She also held the top times in the East Region in the 100m, 200m, 400m, 4x100m, and second in the 4x400m to earn All-Region honors and be named the USTFCCCA East Region Female Track Athlete of the Year. Finally, Hayward earned two First Team All-America nods with her finishes at the NCAA Division II National Championship meet. She came in fourth in the 100m (11.60) and second in the 200m (23.32) to earn All-America honors.

Roberts Wesleyan's Merl McGinnis earns the Women's Outdoor Track & Field Coach of the Year honor after the Redhawks won the ECC Championship Meet for the fourth consecutive year. Lorne Marcus of St. Thomas Aquinas also repeats as the Coach of the Year award on the men's side after leading the Spartans to a second straight outdoor championship.
