Williamsville, N.Y. - The Roberts Wesleyan women and St. Thomas Aquinas men finished first at the ECC Outdoor Track & Field Championship on Saturday afternoon at Williamsville High School. It was the fourth straight ECC outdoor title for the Roberts women, while the St. Thomas Aquinas men earned their second straight outdoor championship.
The Roberts Wesleyan women dominated the competition on their way to a fourth straight conference title. The Redhawks nearly doubled the margin of runner-up Daemen, topping the Wildcats by a final tally of 194-100. The victory also made it four straight years that Roberts Wesleyan's women team has also swept the ECC Cross Country and Indoor/OutdoorTrack & Field Championships.
Seven wins out of 21 events on the day and 16 other top-three finishes helped the Redhawks to another ECC title. Chelsea Hayward wrapped up her ECC career by crossing the finish line in both the 100m dash (12.08) and the 200m dash (25.13). Other individual winners for Roberts were Kristina Button (400m dash - 57.95, high jump - 1.60m) and Moriah Martone (3000m steeplechase - 12:06.34),
Roberts' 4x100m relay team of Kathleen Amstad, Button, Brianna Randolph, and Hayward also crossed the finish line first in a time of 47.03, while the 4x400m relay team of Amstad, Amanda Greenwood, Button, and Hayward also came in first by crossing the line in 3:59.66.
Like the women's side, St. Thomas Aquinas lapped the rest of the field, defeating the runner-up by a margin of (213-155). The Spartans were helped to victory by individual champions Matthew Tina (10,000m run - 34:17.31), Frankie Schiavone (400m hurdles - 56.33), Kesigh Deloatch (high jump - 1.88m, triple jump - 14.17m), Dante Brown (long jump - 6.98m), and Rickssen Opont (shot put - 16.07m, discus - 46.06m).
The Spartans' 4x100m relay team comprised of Jaren Scott, St. Jacob Diodonet, Malyk Michel, and Brown, was also first across the line in a time of 42.06. In addition, the Spartans received 13 top-three finishes on the way to clinching the championship.
Eight meet records were broken on the day with six coming on the men's and two on the women's. Records are denoted with a # in the list of event winners below.
