Purple Knights' Season Comes to a Close With 3-2 NCAA Loss to Franklin Pierce

Lakewood, N.J. - The University of Bridgeport softball team saw its outstanding 2022 season come to a close on Friday afternoon, as the seventh-seeded Purple Knights fell to the sixth-seeded Ravens of Franklin Pierce University, 3-2, in an elimination game at the NCAA Division II East Regional 2 hosted by Georgian Court University.

Bridgeport closed out 2022 with a 36-16 record, and FPU remains alive in the regional with a 30-11 mark.

Franklin Pierce scored one run in the bottom of the first on a bases-loaded hit by pitch after an over two-hour rain delay, and the Ravens added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth to grab a 3-0 lead which they would not relinquish.

The Purple Knights plated runs on a two-out double by freshman Madison D'Amato (Warwick, R.I.) in the fifth and a two-out single by junior Meg McFarland (Monroe, Conn.) in the top of the seventh.

D'Amato finished with two hits in the season finale to end the year on a 17-game hitting streak.

Junior Kaite Burawski (Hartly, Del.) took the loss, as she pitched complete game number 29 of the year.  Burawski, who fanned 10 on the day to reach double-digit strikeouts for the nineteenth time in 2022, finished the year with a 25-8 record, and she struck out a single-season, school-record 354 batters in 218.1 innings pitched.

Abbey Primavera worked the first five innings of the game to earn the win for the Ravens, and Sabrina Gonzalez pitched the final two innings to earn the save for FPU.
