Bridgeport Heads to NCAA Softball Championship for Third Straight Season

Indianapolis - Bridgeport was the lone East Coast Conference member to have their name called to compete for a Division II National Championship as the NCAA unveiled its tournament brackets on Monday morning.

The Purple Knights (36-14) are back in the tournament for the third straight season after winning a third consecutive ECC title to earn the conference's automatic bid. This marks the fifth tournament appearance in program history.

Bridgeport earned the No. 7 seed in the East Region 2 bracket and will kick off the tournament against host and No. 2 Georgian Court (38-13). Other teams in the four-team regional include No. 3 Wilmington (34-18) and No. 6 Franklin Pierce (29-10).

The other East Regional features No. 1 Adelphi (41-11), No. 4 Caldwell (37-15), No. 5 Saint Anselm (28-15), and No. 8 Pace (27-19).

The winner of each regional will advance to the East Super Regional on May 19-20. The super regional champion will move on to play in the NCAA Division II World Series from May 26-30 at the Regency Athletic Complex in Denver, Colorado.
