Purple Knights Season Ends with NCAA Loss to Georgian Court

Manchester, N.H. - The University of Bridgeport softball team saw its 2019 season come to an end in rainy Manchester, New Hampshire on Friday afternoon, as the number eight seed Purple Knights fell to the number four seed Lions of Georgian Court University, 11-6, in an elimination game at the NCAA East Regional 1 hosted by St. Anselm College.  The East Coast Conference Champion Purple Knights, making their first NCAA appearance in 30 years, finished 2019 at 33-16 overall.  GCU moves on to face Southern New Hampshire in another elimination game on Friday at 46-10 overall.

Sophomore Elyssa Marmolejo (Rialto, California) had three hits and a run scored for UB on Friday, and sophomore Kiara Ramon(Stamford, Conn.) had two hits and drove in three for the Purple Knights.

Junior Allison Luzzi (East Haven, Conn.) also had two hits, two runs scored and an RBI for UB, and classmate Samantha Sabor(Plainfield, Illinois) also knocked in a run for the Purple Knights, who outhit the Lions 10 to 8, but Georgian Court hit four home runs and benefited from the UB miscues.

Graduate student Amanda Staheli (Pecatonica, Ill.) took the loss for Bridgeport to finished her stellar 2019 season with a 19-7 record, as she worked three plus innings allowing five hits with seven runs only two of which were earned.

This season marked the fourth time in program history that UB softball has eclipsed the 30-win mark in a single season.
