Bridgeport Earn First-Ever ECC Softball Crown With 3-0 Win Over Top-Seed LIU Post

Brookville, N.Y. - The University of Bridgeport softball team made history on Saturday afternoon winning the school's first-ever East Coast Conference Championship, as the second-seeded Purple Knights blanked the top-seeded LIU Post for the second straight day winning on Pioneers' home field, 3-0.

With the victory, UB gains the East Coast Conference's automatic bid to next week's NCAA Division II East Regional. Bridgeport will head into the NCAA's at 33-14 overall, and LIU Post, which in all probability receive an at-large NCAA bid when the field is announced on Monday morning at 10:00 a.m., is now 46-11.

Bridgeport senior Jenna DiLorenzo (Woodbridge, Conn.) gave Tournament Most Outstanding Player, teammate, senior pitcher Amanda Staheli (Gr., Pecatonica, Ill.) all the offense she would need with a two-run home run, her team-leading ninth homer of the season, in the top of the first inning.

Staheli earned all three of Bridgeport's wins in the 2019 ECC Championship Tournament including two shutouts of powerful LIU Post.  Saturday's championship victory was a brilliant, four-hit complete game win in which she notched one strikeout.

The Purple Knights went through the double-elimination event undefeated to earn the ECC title.

Senior Kamryn Beach (Tampa, Fla.) had two hits on Saturday and drove him her team's other run on Saturday.
