Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. – Powered by the game-winning RBI double in the tenth inning from junior Mikayla Newham (Redding, Calif./Yavapai College) and a strong performance in the circle from junior Kaylee Stevens (Simi Valley, Calif./Royal), the No. 2 seeded Mercy College softball team earned a 4-3 victory over No. 3 seeded Molloy College in Game One of the ECC Championship on Wednesday afternoon at Smith Field.

The Mavericks (31-15) are 17-2 in their last 19 games and will now play LIU Post on Friday, May 4th at 10 a.m. at LIU Post in Game Three of the ECC Championship. If Mercy beats the Pioneers they will play on Saturday, May 5th in Game Six at 12 p.m. If the Mavericks lose to LIU Post on Friday they will play again at 3 p.m. on Friday in the double elimination tournament. The Lions (27-24) have dropped seven games in a row and will take on Bridgeport on Friday at 12:30 p.m. at LIU Post with the loser being eliminated.

Newham went 1-for-5 with an RBI and sophomore Destini Bullock (San Diego, Calif./Helix) went 3-for-4 with two runs and three RBI. Junior Mackenzie Dunlop (Surrey, British Columbia/West Virginia State University) went 4-for-5 and senior Allie Pellizzaro (Victoria, British Columbia/Eastern Arizona CC) hit 2-for-5 with a run. Stevens pitched the final 8.2 innings with just one run allowed and three hits with 11 strikeouts to earn the win.

Molloy was led by Courtney Greene who went 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBI. Jenna Turato pitched 8.1 innings with four earned runs allowed to take the loss.

The Lions jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Greene singled to right center to bring in Kaitlyn Snyder to make it 1-0. Chrissy Heyer made it 2-0 with a single down the left field line, scoring Greene.

It remained 2-0 until the fifth inning when Greene homered to make it 3-0. The Mavericks got on the board in the sixth inning when Pellizzaro singled and senior Cassidy Wootten (Ardsley, N.Y./Monroe College) doubled to put runners on second and third. Bullock then followed with a three-run home run to left field that made it 3-3.

The score remained 3-3 until the tenth inning when Bullock singled and Dunlop reached on an error to put runners on first and second. Newham then followed with a double down the right field line that scored Bullock to give the Mavericks the walk-off win.
