LIU Post Softball Back in NCAA Championship After One Year Hiatus

Indianapolis - After having a streak of 15 consecutive NCAA Championship appearances snapped in 2017, LIU Post is back in the mix of teams vying for a National Championship with their inclusion in the 64 team field announced by the NCAA on Monday morning.

LIU Post (35-17) claimed their spot in the tournament by capturing the conference's automatic bid by winning their first ECC Championship since 2014 on Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers are the No. 4 seed in the East Region and will participate in the East 1 Regional bracket.

No. 5 Le Moyne will be LIU Post's opening opponent in the double-elimination tournament. The Pioneers opened their season with a doubleheader spit against the Dolphins back on March 5 in Florida.

The other two teams in the Pioneers' bracket are No. 1 Adelphi and No. 8 Caldwell. Adelphi, champions of the NE10, will serve as the host for the East 1 Regional. LIU Post also face Adelphi and Caldwell earlier this season. They dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Adelphi on March 15 and split with Caldwell on April 8.

The other half of the East Region will feature four NE10 teams, No. 2 Saint Anselm, No. 3 Southern New Hampshire, No. 6 Pace, and No. 7 Merrimack.

Both sides of the East Region bracket will begin play on Thursday, May 10th and will conclude on Saturday, May 12th. The winner of each bracket will advance to play each other on May 17th in a best-of-three East Region Super Regional with a spot in the NCAA Division II World Series on the line.
