Wentz Named the 2009 Softball Scholar-Athlete of the Year

Central Islip, NY - University of Bridgeport senior third baseman Amanda Wentz (Baker City, Oregon) has been named the 2009 East Coast Conference Softball Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

A Criminal Justice major, Wentz has compiled a 3.84 GPA during her time at Bridgeport.  An integral member of the Purple Knight's infield, she led her squad in batting average (.385), slugging percentage (.656), doubles (10), total bases (80), home runs (7)and runs batted in (27) and cracked the conference charts in batting average (third) and home runs (tied for eighth).   Wentz was an ESPN the Magazine CoSIDA Academic All-District Second Team selection as well as an ECC All-Conference Third Team pick.

East Coast Conference Scholar-Athlete of Year Award recipients are nominated by their institution and voted upon by the Faculty Athletic Representatives from each ECC institution.
