
The C.W. Post softball team claims the #6 spot on the National Fastpitch Coaches Preseason Poll released today.
The Pioneers ended their 2008 campaign at 48-16 with a #8 national ranking. They claimed both the East Coast Conference regular season and tournament titles and advanced to their second straight Division II College World Series after capturing the NCAA Northeast Region Championship.
The NYIT Bears were the only other ECC team to receive votes.
Lock Haven University tops the Coaches Poll after claiming just six first-place votes , while defending NCAA Champion Humboldt State pulled the remaining 10 first-place votes but sits in second place. Last season's runner-up, Emporia State, ranks 23rd while Lock Haven's co-semifinalist, St. Edward's, is ranked third.
The 2009 NCAA Division II Championship will take place May 21-25 in Salem, Va., at the James I. Moyer Sports Complex.
The NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll is voted on by NCAA Division II head coaches, two representing each of the eight NCAA regions.
