Format Change Announced for ECC Men's Tennis Championship

West Babylon, N.Y. – The East Coast Conference announced a format change for its Men's Tennis Championship that will take place this weekend at the Queens College Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.

Due to extenuating circumstances, the championship, which was originally scheduled to take place over two days, will now be a single-day event on Friday, April 21.

Instead of the traditional semifinal format, Friday’s action will see Daemen take on District of Columbia in a consolation match, followed by Queens and St. Thomas Aquinas, who were ECC Regular Season Co-Champions, meeting for the ECC title.

This will mark the fourth straight season Queens (14-4, 5-1 ECC) and St. Thomas Aquinas (17-1, 5-1 ECC) will meet in the ECC Championship final. STAC is the defending champion but the Knights won the previous two meetings.

This season, the two schools split their regular season matchups in a pair of tightly contested matchups. The Spartans took the first meeting on March 24 by a score 4-2. A few weeks later on April 4, the Knights returned the favor to hand STAC their one and only loss to date by a margin of 4-3.

Daemen (5-17, 0-5 ECC) and UDC (5-11, 1-4 ECC) played once previously this season, with UDC coming away victorious by a 6-1 margin.

Both championship matches will be streamed live on the ECC Network. Watch the ECC Network at www.eccsportsnetwork.com or by downloading the ECC Network app. Find the app by searching "ECC Network" on Apple or Android mobile phones and tablets or on Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, Apple TV, and Roku streaming devices. The broadcasts will mainly focus on the No. 1 flight in both doubles and singles but will switch to other courts when possible throughout the match.
