Queens Sweeps Chestnut Hill in NCAA Men’s Tennis Tournament First Round

Hookset, N.H. – The 2022 NCAA Men's Tennis East Regional Bracket No. 2 got underway Monday afternoon on the campus of host and No. 2 seed Southern New Hampshire University Penmen as the Queens College men's tennis team seeded No. 3 went up against No. 6 seed Chestnut Hill Griffins at Penmen Stadium Tennis Courts. 
 
With the Griffins fielding only five players, the Knights began the match up 1-0 and needed only one doubles match and two singles results to advance to Tuesday's match. 
 
Using the advantage, Queens wasted no time as they swept the Griffins to the score of 4-0 to win their first round match since the 2018 season. 
 
With the win, the Knights improve to 17-8 overall, while the Griffins conclude the season with a record of 11-6. 

Doubles Competition
  
Up 1-0 and needing one doubles result, the Knights' No. 2 junior doubles pair of Kareem Rashad (Alexandria, Egypt) / junior Lucas Demuth (Buenos Aires, Argentina) defeated the pair of Noah Cutting / Mark Gladkyy to the score of 6-3 to take a 2-0 lead into singles competition. 
 
The No. 1 doubles match between sophomore Omar El Shehawey (Cairo, Egypt) / senior Moritz Borges (Hunxe, Germany) vs. Tom Pitchley / Joseph Gregory Kvint went unfinished with the Knights pair up 4-2. 
 
No. 3 doubles pair of junior Mariano Bibiloni (La Plata, Argentina ) / sophomore Tim Ostheimer (Frankfurt, Germany)
 
Singles Competition
 
Borges would put the Knights one win away from advancing to the next round as he defeated Gladkyy in straight sets to the score of 6-2, 6-3 at No. 5 singles. 
 
Queens complete the sweep as Rashad picked up a two-set victory over Pitchley at No. 1 singles to the score of 6-2, 6-4. 
 
Singles matches at courts 2, 3, and 4 went unfinished. 
 
With the victory over Chestnut Hill, head coach Somadi Druker and the Knights will now meet host No. 2 seed SNHU Tuesday afternoon with the winner advancing to the Sweet 16. Queens will be looking for their trip to the Sweet 16 since the 2018 season. 

The Knights set up a rematch of the 2019 Second Round match against the Penmen which saw the Penmen take a 4-2 victory. Tuesday's matchup will a rematch of the 2022 season opener as SNHU defeated Queens to the score of 5-2.  The first serve is set for 1:00 p.m.
