Queens Advances to ECC Final with 5-0 Win over No. 3 UDC
Flushing, N.Y. – The second-seeded Queens College men's tennis team claimed all three doubles matches on its way to eliminating third-ranked UDC from the 2018 East Coast Conference Championship Tournament on Friday (Apr. 20) with a 5-0 win in semi-final play at the QC Tennis Center.

Queens will now face off with top-seed NYIT on Saturday (Apr. 21) in the ECC Tournament Championship with first serve scheduled for noon in Flushing. The Knights and Bears faced off in the regular season back on Apr. 13 with NYIT winning a 5-4 classic marathon in Old Westbury, a match that took almost four-and-a-half hours to complete.

Gabriel Mendez and Lucas Martinez had the toughest draw at the top tandem, needing a 7-2 tiebreak to dispatch of the Firebirds' No. 1 team of Rok Bozic and Diego Pinto. The Knights achieved more success in the second- and third-doubles pairings; Richard Sec and Cosme Jubera won an 8-4 match with UDC's Alexis Baguelin and Sebastian Mermersky in second doubles while Roman Laga and Jose Zurro claimed an 8-2 triumph at the No. 3 pairing over Marco Feligioni and Josip Marinic.

Needing just two singles wins to earn a place in the finals, the Knights overwhelmed District of Columbia as Sec notched a 6-0, 6-0 win against Pinto at fourth-singles to give QC a 4-0 edge. Zurro clinched the Knights' spot in the finals with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Feligioni at sixth-singles.
