NYIT Advances to ECC Final with Victory Against STAC

Flushing, N.Y. - NYIT men's tennis has advanced to the ECC finals for the sixth straight year.

The top-seeded Bears defeated No. 4 St. Thomas Aquinas, 5-2, on Friday at Queens in the opening round.

NYIT trailed 2-1 after doubles action, but stormed back in singles play.

Freshman Sergio Fernandez won the clinching match at fifth singles, 6-1, 2-6, 6-3.

NYIT (11-1) will face No. 2 Queens or No. 3 District of Columbia on Saturday for the league's postseason title.

The Bears, who won the ECC regular-season title a week ago with a 5-4 victory against Queens, are the NCAA's top-ranked team in the East Region.
