Selecky and Evangelista de Andrade Earn Top Honors in ECC Men's Tennis All-Conference Awards

West Babylon, N.Y. - For the second time in his career, NYIT redshirt-senior Matej Selecky (Bratislava, Slovakia) has been chosen as the East Coast Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Year by the conference's coaches. In addition, Queens College's Hugo Evangelista de Andrade (Goaiania, Brazil) was the pick as the conference's Rookie of the Year.

After missing the 2017 season with an injury, Selecky bounced back in a big way to earn Player of the Year honors. His season got off to a successful start in the fall when he won the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Region Championship to advance to the ITA Oracle Cup. Selecky continued his outstanding play during the spring portion of NYIT's schedule. He compiled an 11-0 overall singles record in dual matches at the No. 1 position, which included a 5-0 mark in ECC play. The four-time All-Conference selection excelled in doubles play as well, finishing 10-4 overall and 4-1 in ECC action.

Evangelista de Andrade had a solid showing in his debut season for Queens to earn the conference's Rookie of the Year award. He finished with a records of 7-5 in singles play and 5-3 in doubles action. Evangelista de Andrade was solid in ECC action as well, finishing with marks of  2-1 in singles and 1-0 in doubles.

For the fourth straight season, Queens College head coach, Somadi Druker, has been named the league's Coach of the Year by her peers. Under Druker's guidance, the Knights finished the regular season with a 17-5 record and a 4-1 mark in the ECC to earn the No. 2 seed in the upcoming conference tournament. Druker also has the Knights in line to return to the NCAA Championship. In the latest NCAA Regional Rankings released on Wednesday, Queens is currently ranked No. 3 in the East.
