Bracket Finalized for ECC Men's Tennis Championship

West Babylon, N.Y. - With the conclusion of the regular season, the brackets for the East Coast Conference Men's Tennis Championship have been finalized. For the third straight year the same four schools - NYIT, Queens, District of Columbia, and St. Thomas Aquinas - will vie for the ECC title and automatic bid into the NCAA Division II Championship. The tournament will be held on the campus of Queens College on Friday, April 20 and Saturday, April 21.

Tournament action gets underway at 11:00 a.m. on Friday with a matchup between No. 1 NYIT and No. 4 St. Thomas Aquinas. NYIT (10-1) won their fourth ECC Regular Season Championship in the past five years with a perfect 5-0 mark in conference play. The Bears also come into the conference tournament with a No. 48 ranking in the latest Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II poll.

NYIT's opponent, St. Thomas Aquinas, returns to the tournament for the fifth time in six seasons. The Spartans, still in search of their first-ever ECC title. finished 2-3 ECC in conference play and 10-6 overall. NYIT and St. Thomas Aquinas' regular season meeting came just last week on April 11, with the Bears coming away with a 7-2 victory.

Host and No. 2 seed, Queens (16-5), will take on No. 3 District of Columbia (7-6) square off in the other semifinal at 2:00 p.m. Queens, the defending ECC Champions, will look to defend their crown after finishing with a 4-1 record in conference play.

UDC finished with a 3-2 ECC record (7-6 overall) to earn the No. 3 seed in the tournament for the fourth straight year. Like the Spartans, the Firebirds are in search of their first-ever ECC title. Queens was victorious by a 6-3 margin in the regular season meeting between the two schools.

The winners of the semifinals will advance to the championship match on Saturday at 12 noon.
