Indianapolis, Ind. - Both the NYIT and Queens
College men's and women's tennis teams have earned spots in the
upcoming NCAA Division II Tennis Championships.
On the men's side, NYIT received an automatic bid for winning their
second straight ECC title with a 5-0 victory over Queens. The
Bears, who are making their third straight NCAA appearance, earn
the No. 2 seed in the East Region behind Concordia College. As the
No. 2 seed, NYIT will host half of the East Region bracket at Cold
Spring Harbor High School in Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y.
NYIT, ranked No. 19 nationally in the latest ITA poll, will take on
a familiar foe in No. 7 seed Queens College in the first round on
May 3rd. The Bears won both matches between the schools this
season, including last weekend in the ECC Championship.
The winner of the match will advance to take on either No. 3
Chestnut Hill or No. 6 Adelphi on May 4th.
On the women's side, both NYIT earned the No. 1 seed and will host
at Cold Spring Harbor High School as well. The Bears are in the
field for the second straight season and receive a bye in the first
round. They will take on the winner of the first round match
between No. 4 Chestnut Hill and No. 5 Merrimack. A win would send
NYIT to their second straight appearance in the NCAA Round of
16.
Queens is on the other half of the East Region bracket after
earning the No. 3 seed. The Knights have a first round date with
No. 6 Goldey-Beacom. The winner of that match will advance to take
on the No. 2 seed, Concordia in the second round.
