Central Islip, N.Y. – New York Institute
of Technology junior Julio Pulido (Caceres, Spain) has been named
the East Coast Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Year, as
voted on by the league’s coaches. Pulido's teammate,
freshman Matej Selecky (Bratislava, Slovakia) was selected Rookie
of the Year.
Pulido, currently the No. 5 ranked singles player in the East
Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), holds an
11-3 record on the season against Division II opponents, including
a 4-1 mark in ECC play to help NYIT top the ECC regular season
standings. His wins include victories over nationally ranked
opponents Robin Marchione of Rollins and Leo Vivas of Barry. Pulido
also teamed with both Nicolas Auruccio and Selecky for dominant
doubles pairings. In doubles play, Pulido finished the regular
season with a 16-3 mark, all at the No. 1 flight, and was a perfect
5-0 in ECC action.
First year standout Selecky takes home the conference’s top
rookie honor after posting a 12-3 overall record split mostly
between the No. 5 and No. 6 singles flights. A three-time ECC
Rookie of the Week, Selecky was 4-1 in singles action in ECC
matches. He also posted an 11-7 record in doubles action and
finished a perfect 5-0 in ECC play.
NYIT head coach, Chris Frusci, and Roberts Wesleyan head coach, Tom
Linhart, have been selected as the Co-Coaches of the Year by their
peers. Frusci guided his squad to an 18-5 overall record this
season, including a 6-0 mark against conference opponents, to
clinch the ECC regular season title. He also led the Bears to their
highest ever national ranking of No. 19 in the ITA Poll.
Linhart has now led the Redhawks to second place finishes in their
first two years in the conference after posting a 5-1 ECC mark in
2014. Despite the high finish under Linhart, Roberts Wesleyan, who
currently boasts a 13-5 overall record, is not eligible for ECC
Championship play as a NCAA Provisional Member.
