Flushing, N.Y. - Sophomore Pedro Peixoto (Belo
Horizonte, Brazil) posted a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Adam Pizow to
clinch the East Coast Conference semifinal match for NYIT men's
tennis Friday afternoon at Queens College. The third-seeded Bears
defeated the second-seeded Knights 5-0 and advance to the ECC
Finals. NYIT will play top-seeded District of Columbia on Saturday,
April 20 at Noon.
The Bears rallied to win all three doubles matches and lead 3-0
heading into singles play. Julian Marcon (Nandrin, Belgium) and
Tomas Lieb (Buenos Aires, Argentina) defeated Christopher Baron and
Younes Hidass 8-4 at the No. 1 spot. Niko Jubera (La Rioja, Spain)
and Peixoto then topped Andre Pellegrino and Nikolaj Wulff 8-5 at
the No. 2 spot. The third point was won off of an 8-6 triumph at
No. 3 doubles by Jaime Salvador (Zargoza, Spain) and Eduardo
Maurtua (Lima, Peru).
In singles play, NYIT was leading at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots but
only needed two points for the victory. Jubera earned the team's
fourth point with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Alexander Morris at fifth
singles. Peixoto followed with the match win.
