ECC Men's Soccer Championship Kicks Off on Wednesday

ECC Men's Soccer Championship Kicks Off on Wednesday

West Babylon, N.Y. – With the conclusion of regular season play, the four teams that will vie for an ECC Men's Soccer Championship are set.

Mercy is the top seed and ECC Regular Season Champion for the second straight year after finishing with a record of 13-3-2 (6-2-0 ECC). The Mavericks enter the postseason in search of their first ECC title since 2004.

Mercy's semifinal opponent will be No. 4 seed, Molloy. The Lions are back in the bracket for the first time since 2016. Like Mercy, Molloy is also looking to end a long drought without a conference title. The Lions last, and only, ECC Championship came in the 2008 season.

The Mavericks were a victor by a margin of 3-0 over Molloy in their regular season meeting on October 5.

Bridgeport claimed the No. 2 seed with a 10-5-1 (5-2-1ECC) mark. The Purple Knights end a three season postseason drought with their first appearance in the tournament since 2015. Bridgeport looks to end another drought by winning its first conference championship since 2001. The Purple Knights have actually never won the conference tournament, however. Before the 2004 season, the conference did not have a postseason tournament and awarded its championship to the Regular Season Champion.

Roberts Wesleyan (9-7-1, 5-3-0 ECC) will match up with the Purple Knights in the semifinal as the No. 3 seed. The Redhawks earned their first-ever ECC Championship appearance since joining the league in 2012.

Bridgeport was the winner in the regular season matchup between the two schools, winning by a 5-0 margin in both schools' regular season finale.

The semifinals of the tournament will be hosted by the top two seeds and the final will be hosted by the highest remaining seed. Tournament action begins on Wednesday, November 13 and will conclude on Saturday, November 16. All three matches of the championship will be broadcast on the ECC Network.
