Three ECC Soccer Standouts Named Google Cloud Academic All-Americans

Austin, Texas - University of Bridgeport women's soccer's, Maegen Doyle and Jennifer Wendelius, and LIU Post men's soccer's, Lukas Ostermann, have been selected as Google Cloud Division II Academic All-Americans as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Doyle adds another honor to her trophy case in a spectacular 2018 season with a First Team Academic All-America selection. The consensus All-American and United Soccer Coaches Division II National Player of the  Year helped Bridgeport to its first-ever National Championship with an eye popping 28 goals on the season. Doyle's goal total was second in all of Division II and her 13 game-winning goals led the nation.

Doyle earns the Academic All-America nod with a 3.77 grade point average as a Marketing major.

Wendelius joins Doyle as an Academic All-American with a Third Team selection. Also a Marketing major, she has compiled a 3.98 GPA. She earned the Elite 90 award at the NCAA Final Four for the highest GPA among competitors playing in the national semifinals.  

On the pitch, Wendelius was an integral part of the Purple Knights' run to a National Championship.  In 25 games in net, she compiled a 20-4-1 record with 113 saves, an .825 save percentage, and a 0.95 goals against average.

On the men's side, LIU Post's Ostermann was the lone ECC representative. Ostermann, a graduate student majoring in Business Administration, has compiled a 3.37 undergradute GPA and a 3.61 graduate GPA to earn a spot on the Academic All-America Third Team.

After claiming the conference's Rookie of the Year honor a season ago, Ostermann was named the ECC Offensive Player of the Year in 2018. The forward led the ECC with 23 goals and 52 points, while also finishing second in the league with six assists. Ostermann was among the national leaders, as well, coming in the top five in Division II in goals (2nd), points (2nd), points per game (2.6 - 3rd), goals per game (1.15 - 4th), and game-winning goals (7 - 3rd).
