LIU Post and UDC Earn NCAA Men's Soccer Championship Berths

Indianapolis -  LIU Post and University of the District of Columbia men's soccer teams will have the opportunity to compete for a National Championship, as both schools were listed in the NCAA Division II Championship bracket released on Monday evening.

The Pioneers are in the bracket for the seventh straight season and received the No. 1 seed in the East Region half of the Super Region 1 bracket after earning the league's first-ever automatic bid by capturing the ECC Chamionship. The Pioneers, who have now won five of the past six ECC Championships, enter the tournament with an unbeaten record of 16-0-2.

LIU Post will play host to half of the East Region bracket and receive a First Round bye. Their road to a National Championship will begin against either No. 4 seed, Southern Connecticut State (11-3-4), or No. 5 seed, UDC (14-6-0), in the Second Round. After advancing to their first-ever ECC Championship and ECC Championship Final last week, the Firebirds add to their season of firsts with their first-ever NCAA Championship. This will be the first-ever meeting between UDC and Southern Connecticut State, who is making their 34th NCAA Championship appearance.

LIU Post has played both of their potential opponents already this season. They topped the Firebirds both during the regular season and in the ECC Championship final, and also beat the Owls by a 2-1 margin back on September 9.

The other half of the East Region field has second seeded Adelphi (13-2-2) hosting No. 3 Merrimack (16-2-2) and No. 6 Goldey-Beacom (16-4-1).

Tournament play gets underway with the UDC vs. Southern Connecticut State matchup at Pioneer Soccer Park on Thursday, November 9 at 1 p.m. The winner advances to a second round matchup with LIU Post on Saturday, November 11, also at 1 p.m.
