No. 2 LIU Post Captures ECC Title With 3-0 Win Against Molloy

Brookville, N.Y. - On Saturday, the No. 2 and top-seeded LIU Post men's soccer team won its second-straight East Coast Conference Championship with a 3-0 triumph over fourth-seeded Molloy College at Pioneer Soccer Park.

It is also the fourth time in the last five seasons that the Pioneers (17-0-1) have captured the league title. Graduate back Seb Baxter (Saffron Walden, England) was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player.

The green and gold broke through first in the ninth minute, with help from the Lions' (11-5-1) defense. After Alex Hailes (Whitchurch, England) played a cross towards the far post, Molloy's Chris Moschella (Miller Place, N.Y.) tapped the ball into his own net to put the hosts in front.

The Pioneers, who held the Lions to just one shot on goal in the opening 45 minutes, brought a 1-0 advantage into the locker room.

In the second half, LIU Post capitalized on a pair of late opportunities to shut the door.

First, in the 85th minute, senior forward Jason Lampkin (Hawardon, Wales, United Kingdom) unleashed a Nico Kjaer Andersen (Odense, Denmark) pass into the left side of the mesh, making it a 2-0 game.

Just over four minutes later, Andersen capped off the scoring. Off a touch from junior midfielder Harry Pearse (London, England), Andersen fired a shot beyond the reach of Molloy sophomore goalkeeper Raul Bonilla (Brentwood, N.Y.) for a 3-0 lead.

Between the pipes, senior netminder Jesper Malmstrom (Linkopping, Sweden) made two saves for the Pioneers. Bonilla had five stops for the Lions.
