LIU Post Falls to Charleston in NCAA Quarters, 2-1

Charleston, W.Va. - On Saturday, the 12th-ranked LIU Post men's soccer team fell to third-ranked University of Charleston, 2-1, in the quarterfinals of the 2015 NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Championship at Schoenbaum Stadium.

The Pioneers (15-3-3) conceded a pair of goals in the game's first 23 minutes, but had momentum heading into halftime thanks to a late opening-half tally.

In the 42nd minute, graduate midfielder Tom Bowen (Aberdovey, Wales, U.K.) bent a free kick into the top-left corner of the goal to make it 2-1.

LIU Post outshot Charleston (20-2), 4-3, in the game's first 45 minutes. Junior keeper Jesper Malmstrom (Linkopping, Sweden) made one save in the half.

In the latter stanza, the Pioneers got the majority of the chances. The green and gold recorded three shots on goal in the period, but the Golden Eagles' keeper kept them all out.

LIU Post's best chance came with under a minute to go. Freshman forward Charlie Ledula (London, England) sent a shot on goal that Fabian Veit (Dietheim, Germany) made a diving finger-tip save on.

The Pioneers round out the 2015 campaign with an overall record of 15-3-3, their fifth-straight season of at least 15 wins. LIU Post also took home its second-straight NCAA Division II East Region title and won the 2015 East Coast Conference Championship.
