Brookville, N.Y. - A pair of former LIU Post men's soccer standouts, Matias Ruiz (Southampton, N.Y.) and Per Forgaard (Stavanger, Norway), have signed professional contracts with the New York Cosmos B Team of the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL).
Ruiz, an All-ECC and ECAC All-Star first-team and D2CCA All-East Region second-team selection, finished his senior season tied for second on the squad with seven goals. He was also second on the team with nine assists and third on the team with 21 total points. Ruiz is expected to make his debut on Saturday (May 14).
Forgaard, a D2CCA and NSCAA All-America and All-East Region and All-East Coast Conference honoree, as well as the D2CCA East Region and ECC Offensive Player of the Year, led the Pioneers with 13 goals and 13 assists for a 39-point output. The senior ranked in the Top-20 in Division II in nearly every offensive category and led the ECC in goals, points and shots (58), and was sixth with two-game winners. Forgaard is aiming for a debut some time early next week.
The Cosmos won the 2015 NPSL Championship and held tryouts for this year's squad in late March.
