Bears Advance to Championship After 3-0 Win Over Molloy

Old Westbury, N.Y. - NYIT blanked Molloy in the first round of the East Coast Conference playoffs on Thursday afternoon. The Bears earned their sixth shutout of the season at 3-0 and improve their overall record to 13-2-1 and 8-1-1 in conference. The Lions drop to 5-11-2 on the season and 5-4-1 in conference play.

Starting the scoring rally for NYIT was senior Dominic Iovino (Glendale, Ariz.) who scored the first goal at 20:25. Off an assist from senior Javier Gallardo (Sevilla, Spain), Iovino beat the keeper nearside. In the second half, at 58:43, senior Ivan Rico (Sevilla, Spain) chipped the ball in to the right corner of the goal for his sixth goal of the season. The final goal was completed by junior Gonzalo Barroso (Madrid, Spain) off a free kick from Gallardo. Barroso found the back of the net on the left side.

The Bears outshot the Lions 17 to seven, respectively with seven to two shots on goal.  Rico earned four shots with two on goal. Next was freshman Alex Barbosa (Old Westbury, N.Y.) who totaled four shots and Iovino had two shots with both on goal. Three players for NYIT compiled one shot and one goal including Barroso, junior Alberto Ruiz (Zaragoza, Spain) and junior Jaime Gomez Bardon (Madrid, Spain). Four Bears tallied one shot each, Gallardo, senior Guillermo Fuentes (Valladolido, Spain), freshman Alejandro Del Cura (Madrid, Spain) and senior Harvey Houpe (Center Moriches, N.Y.).  

NYIT advances to the East Coast Conference championship game for a Battle for the Boulevard rematch against LIU Post which ended in a tie at 1-1. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8 at President's Stadium.
