Kansas City, Kan. - A 2-0 start to the season has led to the University of the District of Columbia men's soccer team earning a spot in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/Continental Tires Division II Top 25 poll for the first time in program history.
The Firebirds, who debut in the poll at No. 21, began the 2014
campaign with identical 2-1 victories over Slippery Rock and
Wilmington last week. Both squads UDC defeated were NCAA Tournament
participants in 2013.
LIU Post, two-time defending ECC Champions, fell out of the
poll from the No. 8 spot after splitting a pair of games during the
opening week of the season. The Pioneers are still listed in the
poll in the others receiving votes category.
UDC and LIU Post are also joined by NYIT in the NSCAA East Region
poll. The Firebirds come in at No. 3 in the poll behind defending
National Champion, Southern New Hampshire, and Southern Connecticut
State.
LIU Post is next at No. 5 and is followed by NYIT at No. 8. The
Bears, who were also an NCAA Tournament participant in 2013, began
the year by defeating Holy Family, 4-1, and American International,
1-0.
