Kansas City, Kan. - Three ECC men's soccer
standouts have been named All-Americans by the National Soccer
Coaches Association of America. LIU Post teammates Eivind Austboe
and Jonathon Watkin were selected to the First Team, while NYIT's
Vinny Caccavale earned a spot on the Second Team.
Austboe, the ECC Offensive Player of the Year, led the ECC in
nearly every offensive category and was among the Division II
scoring leaders. He totaled 24 goals, 10 assists, 58 points, and 10
game-winning goals on the season to rank first or second in the
conference in each category. His goal and point totals were also
good for second in all of Division II.
Watkin was an ECC First Team All-Conference selection as a
midfielder. He finished third on the high-powered Pioneers' offense
with six goals. Watkin also tallied four assists and finished with
16 points on the season.
Caccavale, a four-time ECC First Team All-Conference pick, was
named to the NSCAA All-America squad for the second straight
season. In 15 games, Caccavale tallied four goals and dished off
five assists for 13 points.
All three All-Americans were also NSCAA All-Region First Team
selections. Joining them on the First Team was ECC Defensive Player
of the Year, Eirik Bjoernoe of LIU Post.
Zacchious Ogoo (Dowling), Per Forgaard (LIU Post), Matthew DiDonna
(NYIT), and Cemil Turan (LIU Post) were Second Team All-Region
picks, while ECC Goalkeeper of the Year, Nick Papas (Mercy), was
joined by Javier Gallardo (NYIT), Clayton Ulmer (Bridgeport), and
Glen Reid (Queens) as Third Team selections.
