Austboe Named Capital One Academic All-American of the Year; Six Named to All-America Squads

Towson, Md. – Junior forward Eivind Austboe of LIU Post leads the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America® NCAA Division II Men’s Soccer Teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Austboe has been chosen as the recipient of the Academic All-America® of the Year award for Division II men’s soccer.

The Capital One Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2013-14 D-II Academic All-America® teams program.

A business management major with a 3.94 G.P.A., Austboe is making his first appearance on the Capital One Academic All-America® NCAA Division II first team.  He has led LIU Post to an 18-1-2 record and to the East Region final in the NCAA Tournament against Southern New Hampshire University.  The No. 8 Pioneers won the East Coast Conference championship and defeated Dowling College 6-1 to advance to tournament’s third round.

A native of Stavanger, Norway, Austboe was named the ECC Offensive Player of the Year after ranking among the Division II leaders in scoring.  He has started all 21 matches at forward, leading a Pioneer offense that ranks fourth in Division II in scoring. He has a team-high 24 goals along with 10 assists for 58 points.  He ranks third in Division II in goals, goals per game, points, and points per game.

Austboe had a huge comeback season after missing the second half of the 2012 campaign with an injury.  After earning ECC Rookie of the Year and All-ECC second-team honors in 2011, Austboe was named an Honorary All-Conference member in 2012.

Austboe is one of three LIU Post players named to the Capital One Academic All-America® men’s soccer team, joined by goalkeeper Marco Jorgensen and defender Eirik Bjoernoe.
Jorgensen was also a first team performer in 2012.  The Copenhagen, Denmark, native is a political science and economics major with a 3.96 G.P.A.  He owns an 18-1-2 record with a 0.90 goals-against average and five shutouts.  He was recently named to the All-ECC second team after being named the Goalkeeper of the Year in 2011 and 2012.  He has allowed just 18 goals and has a .824 save percentage.

Bjoernoe has played a major role in Jorgensen’s and LIU Post’s success.  The senior from Randalberg, Norway, was named the ECC Defensive Player of the Year while leading the Pioneer back line.  He has also contributed on the offensive end while starting all 21 matches.  He ranks third on the team in scoring with five goals and nine assists for 19 points.  He was named to the All-ECC first team for the third straight year.  Bjoernoe is a journalism major with a 3.78 G.P.A.

Two members of the NYIT men’s soccer team and another member of the LIU Post squad were also selected as Second or Third Team Academic All-Americans. Vinny Caccavale, a communications arts major from NYIT with a 3.45 G.P.A, was the lone Second Team honoree. Matthew DiDonna (accounting, 3.86 G.P.A.) of NYIT and Jonathan Watkin (physical education, 3.79 G.P.A.) of LIU Post were also Third Team selections.
