Kansas City, Mo. – The LIU Post
men’s soccer team comes in at No. 22 in the latest edition of
the National Soccer Coaches Association of America National
Poll.
Despite a 2-0-0 start to their season, the Pioneers dropped nine
spots from their preseason rank of No. 13. LIU Post defeated
Wilmington, 3-1, and Bloomfield, 2-1 in overtime, to begin their
2012 slate.
St. Thomas Aquinas dropped out of the Top 25 after posting a 1-0-1
record in the opening week of the season. The Spartans were
included in the Others Receiving Votes portion of the poll.
The NSCAA also released their first regional rankings of the year,
with four ECC institutions making the cut.
LIU Post was the first ECC school, coming in at No. 3. St. Thomas
Aquinas was next at No. 4 and was followed by Mercy and Dowling at
Nos. 5 and 6.
Mercy started their season with a pair of one goal victories over
Nyack and Bloomsburg, while Dowling defeated LeMoyne in overtime
and played UMass Lowell to a draw.
Franklin Pierce, also ranked No. 3 in the nation, tops the East
Region poll.
