Twelve ECC Men's Soccer Student-Athletes Named to Daktronics All-East Region Teams

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – On Tuesday morning, Daktronics, Inc. put out its All-East Region Men’s Soccer Team for Division II, and 27 players across 13 teams fit the bill. For the second-straight year, the Player of the Year came from regional powerhouse Franklin Pierce University. Senior midfielder Diego Tabares (Seekonk, Mass.) brings home the honor, after accumulating 22 points off of nine goals and four assists. He is also looking to put the Ravens in the national semifinals Saturday against Southern New Hampshire University.

From the back line, the first-team defensive unit houses three players from the East Coast Conference. They are Bridgeport’s Clayton Ulmer (Hamden, Conn.), Queens’ Danny Stoker (London, England) and C.W. Post’s Eirik Bjoernoe (Randaberg, Norway). The other first-team member was last season’s Daktronics East Region Player of the Year, senior defenseman Tom Reilly (Wallasey, England), from Franklin Pierce.

In the midfield, Tabares leads the way as the region’s best player. Joining him are C.W. Post’s Andreas Olson (Oppeid, Norway), Nyack’s Felix Horn (Halle, Germany) and Southern New Hampshire’s Ruben Resendes (Fall River, Mass.). Meanwhile, at forward, the first-team consists of Eivind Austboe (Stavanger, Norway) in addition to Cemil Turan (Staten Island, N.Y.) of C.W. Post, Chris Tsonis (Dartmouth, Mass.) of SNHU and Bloomfield’s Terry Gibbs (London, England), who was a second-team selection last year.

Between the pipes, Franklin Pierce’s Vinny Papageorgiou (Wilmington, Mass.) won first-team honors for the second-straight season. In net, Papageorgiou has a 20-0-1 clip with 58 saves and a 0.51 GAA. Each of these student-athletes is now eligible for the All-America Team, slated to be released on Wednesday, Nov. 30. The second-team honorees are listed below as well, capping off the 2011 Daktronics Division II East Region Team.
