St. Thomas Aquinas Tops NYIT in NCAA Tournament, 4-1

Rindge, N.H. - The St. Thomas Aquinas men's soccer team advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 with a 4-1 win over NYIT this afternoon.  Daniel Davren scored a goal just 10 minutes into action to get the Spartans rolling.  Remington Lee added two goals and Sean Reily had one.  Andrew Tartara had two saves for STAC.

Davren's goal came off an assist from Robert Stevens as he dribble to the right box and fired a shot to the left corner.  The Spartans held onto a 1-0 lead into half time as they out shot the Bears three to tow.

Lee scored his first goal off a cross from Joe Connolly early in the second half.  The Spartans added their third goal just five minutes later as Reily chipped in a goal off a missed header attempt by Connolly.

The Bears scored their lone goal at the 64 minute mark as Houpe Harvey scored off a rebounded ball.  STAC continued to attack adding their 4th goal in the final minute of play as Lee fired a shot into the right corner.

The Spartans out shot the Bears six to five for the game.  Joe Caccavalle had three saves for NYIT.  STAC will now face the host team and No. 1 seed, Franklin Pierce on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.  Today's win was the first NCAA win in the programs history.  STAC is now 11-3-4 and will play for a chance to advance to the Elite Eight.
