ECC Announces 2011 Men’s Soccer All-Conference Teams

Central Islip, N.Y. – After an unbeaten regular record in East Coast Conference play, members of the C.W. Post Pioneers men’s soccer team took home four out of five top All-Conference awards, as voted on by the league’s coaches.  Sophomore forward Cemil Turan was named the Offensive Player of the Year, freshman Eivind Austboe took home the Rookie of the Year, Marco Jorgensen earned the Goalkeeper of the Year, and head coach Andreas Lindberg garnered Coach of the Year honors. Bridgeport’s Clayton Ulmer rounds out the top award winners as the Defensive Player of the Year. 

Turan was an offensive force for the Pioneers in 2011, helping the squad to a 14-1-1 (6-0-1 ECC) record. The three-time ECC Offensive Player of the Week, Turan finished second in the conference in goals (13), points (30), and points per game (1.76). He also sent home a conference leading six game winning goals.

Turan had help leading the Pioneers offense this season, teaming with Rookie of the Year, Eivind Austboe. Austboe had an outstanding first season at C.W. Post, leading the conference with 15 goals and 32 points. A four-time ECC Rookie of the Week, Austboe also finished third in the conference with four game winning goals.

Sophomore back Clayton Ulmer from the University of Bridgeport is the ECC Defensive Player of the Year. Ulmer was part of the Purple Knights’ back line that allowed only 1.47 goals per game and shut out six opponents. He also helped Bridgeport clinch the No. 3 seed in the conference tournament by contributing one goal and three assists on the season.

Marco Jorgensen of C.W. Post takes home the Goalkeeper of the Year award. On the year, Jorgensen finished with 81 saves to lead the conference with an .862 save percentage and a 0.69 goals against average. He also finished second in the ECC with six shutouts while posting a 14-1-1 record.

Leading his team to an ECC Regular Season title, Andread Lindberg has been voted the ECC Men’s Soccer Coach of the Year by his peers.  Lindberg guided the Golden Lions to a 14-1-1 regular season record with a 6-0-1 mark in conference play to earn the top seed in the ECC Tournament.

Turan, Ulmer, and  Jorgensen are joined on the All-Conference First Team by: Matthew DiDonna (F, NYIT), Markus Naglestad (F, Bridgeport), Vinny Caccavale (M, NYIT), Daniel Davren (M, St. Thomas Aquinas), Remington Lee (M, St. Thomas Aquinas), Andreas Olson (M, C.W. Post), Eirik Bjoernoe (B, C.W. Post), Leron Haywood (B, C.W. Post) and Danny Stoker (B, Queens).

Joining Austboe as  All-Conference Second Team recipients include forwards: John Alberda (Molloy) and  William Koki (Mercy); midfielders: Jonathan Aristizabal (Bridgeport), Jonathan DeFelice (Dowling), Guillermo Fuentes (NYIT), and Sean Reilly (St. Thomas Aquinas); defenders: Javier Gallardo (NYIT), Lee Middleton (Bridgeport), and Pierre Sy (NYIT) along with goalkeeper Andrew Tartara (St. Thomas Aquinas).
