INDIANAPOLIS, IND. (Feb. 9, 2012) –
Molloy College junior and men’s soccer player Tyler De La
Torre (Valley Stream, N.Y.) has distinguished himself as a
student-athlete that truly embodies the core values of NCAA
Division II. The Digital Art Major was recently chosen as a
finalist for the Dunkin’ Donuts “Donut Art”
contest following an art class assignment last semester, proving
that he can achieve success on the playing field as well as in the
classroom.
De La Torre and his classmates were to each design a doughnut box
top and submit it to the Dunkin’ Donuts Company for an
individual class grade. De La Torre’s design featured
strawberry frosted doughnuts with rainbow sprinkles, which are his
favorite. Sometime later, Dunkin’ Donuts announced his design
as a finalist in a group of eight. His design was featured on boxes
from over 1,500 Dunkin’ Donuts stores in the tri-state
area.
As the National Collegiate Athletic Association got wind of De La
Torre’s success in the classroom, they scheduled an interview
with him and his coach, Danny Longo. From there, the NCAA created a
feature story on Tyler to display on its website. The story is part
of a series about student-athletes who exhibited exceptional
motivation in their field of study.
