Rockville Centre, N.Y. – Former standout
midfielder Jose Batista (Rego Park, N.Y.) of the Molloy College
men’s soccer squad recently inked a one-year deal with
Sevilla FC of the United Soccer League in Puerto Rico. In his two
years with the Lions, Batista, a two-time All-East Coast Conference
first-team honoree and 2009 Daktronics All-America second-team
selection, amassed 50 points on 19 goals and 12 assists.
In the Molloy record book, Batista ranks as the school’s
all-time leader in goals per game (0.61), shots on goal per game
(3.48), shots per game (3.48) and points per game (1.61). The Rego
Park local is also positioned second in goals, assists per game
(0.39), points and shots on goal (54). Plus, Batista presently
holds seven single-season marks for the Lions, and two
individual-game records at Mercy College on October 6, 2009.
“Signing a contract at the professional level, and making a
dream come true is an amazing feeling,” said Batista.
“Now, I have to continue to work hard, day in and day out,
and stay focused to keep this dream alive.”
Batista will make his Sevilla FC debut on Sunday against Real
Zaragoza. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
