
Oakdale, NY- Patrick Cunningham ('09), a
member of the 2006 Dowling Men's Soccer National Championship
team and 2008 National Finalist team, has been awarded the ECAC
Division II Men's Robbins Scholar-Athlete Award for his
contributions on the playing field, in the classroom, and in the
community.
Cunningham, a four-year player for the Golden Lions, was a staple
on the Dowling defense receiving numerous honors during his playing
career. Recently, Patrick was named to the Final Four
All-Tournament team as he help propel his team to the National
Championship in 2008. Also for his play on the field, he was
named to the ECC All-Conference First Team. While Cunningham
was a dominant force on the soccer field, he excelled just as much
in the classroom, having been named to the ESPN/CoSida Academic
All-District First Team. He received conference academic
honors as well, earning ECC Men's Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the
Year and ECC Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year
recognitions.
The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Robbins Scholar-Athlete Awards, sponsored by the Cincinnati-based sports surfaces company, honors the outstanding academic and athletic achievements of student-athletes representing ECAC schools in Division I, II and III. One male and one female athlete from each division are selected based on extraordinary achievements in academics, athletics and community service.
