
Brookhaven, NY- In a physical match-up
much like their first meeting in early September, the Dowling
College Golden Lions defeated the Franklin Pierce University
Ravens, 3-1, to advance to the NCAA DII Quarterfinals.
After narrowly defeating the defending National Champion Ravens 1-0
on September 7th, the Golden Lions started off the game on Sunday
with an early goal from Lamine Traore. In the 7th minute of
play, Carl Rydin threaded a pass from the left side, allowing
Traore to shoot one into the middle of the net from 5 yards out,
putting Dowling up 1-0.
Shortly after in the 24th minute, it was Moussa Keita who scored
for Dowling, taking an assist from Lamine Traore and firing one
into the right side from 10 yards out, giving the Golden Lions some
insurance.
Dowling wasn't finished yet as El Hadji Mbow came through for
Dowling in the 26th minute. Taking a pass from Lamine Traore
after a long scramble at the net, Mbow lobbed one into the right
side from a few yards out, giving Dowling a 3-0
advantage.
After a hard foul in the box on the Dowling side, Cole Larned of
Franklin Pierce shot a penalty kick into the right side past gk
Nemanja Veljovic, giving the Ravens their first and only goal of
the game.
At the conclusion of the game, the All-Tournament team of the
Dowling site was announced for the Super Region 4. The

The Most Outstanding Defensive Player award went to Carl
Rydin and the Most Outstanding Offensive Player award went to
Lamine Traore.
Dowling will now take on U-Mass Lowell, who defeated Southern New
Hampshire on Sunday.
