Nov 16, 2008

Brookhaven, NY-  In a physical match-up much like their first meeting in early September, the Dowling College Golden Lions defeated the Franklin Pierce University Ravens, 3-1, to advance to the NCAA DII Quarterfinals.

After narrowly defeating the defending National Champion Ravens 1-0 on September 7th, the Golden Lions started off the game on Sunday with an early goal from Lamine Traore.  In the 7th minute of play, Carl Rydin threaded a pass from the left side, allowing Traore to shoot one into the middle of the net from 5 yards out, putting Dowling up 1-0.

Shortly after in the 24th minute, it was Moussa Keita who scored for Dowling, taking an assist from Lamine Traore and firing one into the right side from 10 yards out, giving the Golden Lions some insurance.

Dowling wasn't finished yet as El Hadji Mbow came through for Dowling in the 26th minute.  Taking a pass from Lamine Traore after a long scramble at the net, Mbow lobbed one into the right side from a few yards out, giving Dowling a 3-0 advantage.

After a hard foul in the box on the Dowling side, Cole Larned of Franklin Pierce shot a penalty kick into the right side past gk Nemanja Veljovic, giving the Ravens their first and only goal of the game.
