EAST STROUDSBURG - East Stroudsburg University and Lock Haven University lead the 2007 Daktronics Division II Men's Soccer Northeast Region team with five and four players respectively, and Shippensburg midfielder Geoff Bloes was named the region's Player of the Year, it was announced Tuesday.
Bloes had 13 goals and nine assists as a senior to lead the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) in scoring for the second straight season, and was also a first team Daktronics Northeast Region selection as a junior.
ESU, the top seed and host for this weekend's Division II Northeast Regional, had five players receive all-region honors, including three on the first team. Backs Danny Drago and Copeland Lewis and forward Jason Shegda are first team honorees, while midfielder Roshane Ellison and goalkeeper Larry Pokrywa are on the second team.
Midfielder Ashley Rosindale earned first team honors for Lock Haven, and back Andrew Clemens, midfielder Phil Liversedge and forward Paul Huckett were named to the second team.
NYIT had three players selected, including Vincent Tyrell, a first team selection at back. Goalkeeper Cosimo D'Agostino joins ESU's Pokrywa on the second team due to ties in the voting, and back Josue Cruz was also named to the second team.
Back Randy Jean-Baptiste and forward Blaise Njie were both selected to the first team for Bridgeport.
Russ Francome of Molloy is the first team choice at goalkeeper and back Nick Bell was mentioned on the second team.
California (Pa.) and Dowling also had selections on the first and second teams. Cal's Mike Luecke was a first team choice at forward and Marty Snee was named to the second team at back. Ahmodoul Gaye (first team) and Carl Rydin (second team) were selected at midfield for Dowling.
Michael Frimpong-Manso of Mercy and Sean McLaughlin of Millersville complete the Northeast Region team as second team selections at forward.
