Mercy Men's and Women's Lacrosse Seasons Come to End with No Contest Declaration

Indianapolis - Both the Mercy men's and women's lacrosse teams saw their season come to an end after no contest was declared for both team's opening matchup in their respective NCAA Championships. The following statements were issued by the NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Lacrosse Committees.

Statement from the Division II Men's Lacrosse Committee
Mercy informed the Division II Men’s Lacrosse Committee on Friday that it is withdrawing from the Division II Men’s Lacrosse Championship due to positive COVID-19 tests and contact tracing. Mercy was scheduled to play Mercyhurst on Sunday. That game will be considered a no-contest, and Mercyhurst will advance to the national semifinals May 23. The committee regrets that Mercy’s student-athletes and coaches will not be able to compete in the quarterfinals of the tournament. Because of privacy issues, no further details will be provided.

Statement from the Division II Women's Lacrosse Committee
The NCAA Division II Women’s Lacrosse Committee, in consultation with the NCAA Championship Medical Team, has declared today’s Mercy-Bentley game in the Division II Women’s Lacrosse Championship in Rochester, New York, a no-contest because of COVID-19 protocols. As a result, Bentley will advance to the second round of the tournament, playing Roberts Wesleyan on Sunday. The committee regrets that Mercy will be unable to participate in the championship that its student-athletes and coaches earned the right to compete in. Because of privacy issues, no further details will be provided.
