Old Westbury, N.Y. - Led by the game-winning goal with four seconds left from senior Bobby Chillianis (Bethpage, N.Y./Bethpage), the No. 1-seeded Mercy College men's lacrosse team earned an 11-10 victory over No. 2-seeded LIU Post to record the program's first-ever ECC Men's Lacrosse Tournament Championship on Saturday afternoon at NYIT.

The Mavericks (17-1) have won four games in a row and defeat the Pioneers (11-5) twice in a season for the first time ever.

Chillianis had two goals and two ground balls and junior Tommy McPartland (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) and freshman Joe Poggio(Bethpage, N.Y./Bethpage) both had a team-high three points on two goals and an assist. Freshman Jack Gibbons (North Bellmore, N.Y./Mepham) had a goal and two assists and senior Luke Baron (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) had two goals. Senior Ryan MacSpadyen (Toronto, Ontario/Seneca College) and sophomore Dominic Scorcia (Franklin Square, N.Y./Carey) also scored and senior Anthony DeCeglia (Northport, N.Y./Nassau CC) had a game-high three caused turnovers. Junior Antonio Rey (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) went 8-of-24 on faceoffs and senior Ryan Gibbons (Seaford, N.Y./Dowling College) made 15 saves to earn the win.

LIU Post was led by Nick Grassa who had a game-high three goals and Bryan Ochs made 18 saves in taking the loss.

After nearly eight minutes of scoreless action, the Pioneers scored first on a Grassa goal to make it 1-0 at the 7:41 mark. Baron answered just eight seconds later to tie the game up at 1-1. McPartland scored the final goal of the quarter with 1:33 on the clock to give Mercy a 2-1 lead after one quarter.

Poggio and Scorcia opened the second quarter with back-to-back goals to put Mercy in front 4-1 with 10:59 remaining in the half. LIU Post responded with five straight goals to close out the half, taking a 6-4 lead at halftime.

A William Snelders goal to open the third quarter gave the Pioneers a 7-4 lead. Poggio made it 7-5 with his second of the day at the 11:33 mark. Thomas Liantonio put the LIU Post lead back to three, 8-5, with a goal at the 10:12 mark. McPartland recorded the final goal of the quarter to send the Mavericks into the fourth quarter down two, 8-6.

Gibbons and Chillianis started the fourth quarter with back-to-back goals to tie the game up at 8-8 with 10:20 remaining. Snelders scored to give the Pioneers a 9-8 lead, but MacSpadyen came up with a game-tying goal at the 6:48 mark.

It remained 9-9 heading into the final two minutes of play when Alex Russell scored to give the Pioneers a 10-9 lead with 1:43 remaining. A turnover by LIU Post with 28 seconds left led to a transition goal from Baron that tied the game up at 10-10 with 17 seconds left. Mercy won the ensuing faceoff on a violation and Chillianis netted the game-winner with four seconds left to put the Mavericks up 11-10.

The Pioneers won the ensuing faceoff but ran out of time to give Mercy their first-ever ECC Championship.

Shots were tied at 46-46 and ground balls were tied at 39-39. LIU Post won 17-of-25 faceoffs.

Head Coach Jordan Levine and the Mavericks will now await a possible NCAA Tournament bid. The selection show is set to air on Sunday, May 5th at 7:30 p.m.
